Requirement 9 of PSM - Hot Work Permits
In this video, I disucss requirement 9 of Process Safety Management (PSM), which is related to Hot Work Permits.
This requirement states that every employer must issue a permit to anyone involved in welding or other hot work near highly hazardous chemicals.
There are a number of ways that customers can use technology to help facilitate this PSM requirement, which is highly recommended.
Creating the permit requires multi-disciplines and you have to have some engineering involved in it to ensure that all of the hazards are identified and built into the permit.
You want to have a good record of not only your permits and the technical basis behind them, but you also want a record and acknowledgement of the employee or contractor who is going to be performing the work.
Having those documents in a centralized repository will allow you to capture acknowledgements from the employees or contractors.
This gives you a good basis for a reporting system to be able to report back to auditors that you are in compliance with the hot work permit.
