Requirement 7 of PSM - Pre Start-Up Safety Review (PSSR’s)
Hello, Bryan Evans with HSE Technology more on our process safety management video series. The next element is Pre Start-up Safety Review (PSSR’s).
OSHA has mandated that there be a process of thorough safety reviews before a process starts back up. This ensures that prior to engaging in operations of this process, everybody on the team that was involved in starting the process back up is not only aware of the hazards and of the chemicals involved and aware of the dangers but has also acknowledged it.
Having a way to ensure that before the operations commence, the team looks at the PSSR and reviews all the components and everybody who is involved in the start-up process has acknowledged the process and understands their role and the hazards involved in the start-up.
The review process engages multi-disciplines, so you have different team members ensuring that everyone is aware of the hazards of the start-up process.
A lot of our customers manage those via forms, however, again here is where technology can help you by engaging the right people to review and comprise those PSSR’s and also making sure that the right people in the team during the start-up read and acknowledge the PSSR and understand their role in the process.
